William Manuel, son of a Holywell miner, was an infant prodigy, able to read English, Welsh, Greek and Hebrew at an early age. The volume in this collection passed to the depositor from her godfather, Thomas Harker Edwards of Liverpool, whose father [?William] Edwards lived near Tremeirchion and knew William Manuel. The boy is believed to have died of meningitis, aged ten.
