Administrative / Biographical History

Rhyl Urban District Council (UDC), Flintshire, was established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1894. The Council's responsibilities, inherited from bodies such as the Improvement Commissioners, included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, housing, streets, cemeteries, libraries, parks and controls on buildings such as petrol stations. The Council was administered by committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer and Surveyor. The Council oversaw Rhyl baths and Rhyl Library. Rhyl UDC was abolished in 1974 following local government reorganisation, being absorbed into Rhuddlan Borough Council.
