Administrative / Biographical History
George Lewis (1878-1963), a native of Buckley, Flintshire, worked in the coal industry for most of his life and collected documents relating to Flintshire industry, including George Watkinson & Sons Ltd of Halifax, Yorkshire, which had interests in collieries in Buckley, including Elm and Maesygrug Collieries. He became an acknowledged authority on the clay and coal industries in the Buckley area and an article of his on the canalization of the River Dee was published in Flintshire Historical Society Publication, 23 (1966-1967).
