Scope and Content

Deeds relating mainly to properties in Pulford and Dodleston, Cheshire, Holt, Denbighshire, and Burton, Denbighshire, 1592-1762, papers relating to Leeswood Green and Treuddyn collieries, Flintshire, 1852-1891, and miscellaneous correspondence, financial and other papers of the Burganey family, 1604-1811.

Administrative / Biographical History

The connection of the Burganey family with Pulford, Cheshire, (and Holt, Denbighshire) seems to date from the time of Anthony Burganey (d. 1610) who is described in a deed of 1587 as of Wootton Underwood, Buckinghamshire. The estate descended in the male line to John Burganey, captain in the Ancient British Fencible Cavalry, who was killed in 1798 at the Battle of Newton Barry in Ireland. The estate then passed to Miss Ann Burganey, the last representative of the family, and on her death in 1847 to Townshend Ince of Christleton, Cheshire.
