Scope and Content

Original: Also known as: Venere nel bagno, Venere nella conchiglia. Likely to be a Roman adaptation of Doidalses' Crouching Aphrodite (a lost Greek original from the 3rd century BC). Original currently in the collection of the Louvre, Paris, France.

Listed in 1964/5 inventory as located in the entrance halls passage ways of the Mackintosh Building (GSAA/GOV/7/5).

Custodial History

Loaned to McLellan Galleries 1 May 1997- 30 September 1997 for 'The Birth of Impressionism' Exhibition (22 May - 7 September 1997). Loaned to The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow for 'Picturing Venus' Exhibition 9 March- 29 June 2014. This item is currently on display in The Glasgow School of Art's Reid Building.
