Scope and Content

Charter of William de Stafford.

Grant by Stafford to Robert Stafford his younger son, of the messuage and land held by John of Cobden Edge in Mellor [Derbyshire]. Witnesses: Richard Folejaumbe, Walter Waldesheft, Roger de Meluer, Robert le Ragged, Richard le Ragged. Mellor, 7 April 1324.

Administrative / Biographical History

William de Stafford seems to be been connected to the Staffords of Botham Hall, in the township of Mellor, North Derbyshire. His grandson William married Margaret, daughter of Peter de Mellor, bringing the Botham Hall estate into the family. He may also have been nephew of Edmond, created the first baron de Stafford in 1298.
