From about 1865, John Crossley and Sons owned worsted spinning mills at Holmfield and Shay Lane, Ovenden, trading there under the title of the Ovenden Worsted Company from 1871. The directors in 1871 were John, Francis, Edward and Louis John Crossley, John Lewis, Benjamin Musgrave and James Booth
