Administrative / Biographical History
The Temperance Movement, with its Bands of Hope, campaigned against the evil effects of alcoholic drink from the mid 19th century well into the 20th century. Nonconformist chapels such as Bethany Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Pontnewynydd, Monmouthshire, were often at the forefront of the movement.
