Administrative / Biographical History

Wheatley Hills Secondary Modern School for Boys took in its first pupils in September 1955, and was officially opened on 5 May 1956. Situated on Hills Lane, the school catered for 450 boys aged 11-15. It was included in the Doncaster Local Education Authority's plan to supersede the former boys school in Beckett Road. The name of the school changed to Wheatley Hills High School for Boys at sometime during 1961 or 1962. In 1978, as part of a reorganization of school provision in Doncaster, it became a middle school, accommodating about 500 girls and boys mainly of the age 9 to 13 years. The name of the school was changed to Wheatley Hills Middle School. Most of the School's pupils went on to attend Danum School and the two schools formed a pyramid or complex with Wheatley Middle School and Intake Middle School. During the years 1978-1980 the school housed both Middle School pupils and also pupils of the former High School.
