Annual reports, 1936-1968; minute series, including General Meetings, Council and Executive Committee meetings; group/branch papers; correspondence and subject files; British Federation of Social Workers and Association of Social Workers' publications, 1939-1970, circulars, 1941-1951, and news sheets, 1945-1970, and evidence etc. submitted to inquiries.

Administrative / Biographical History

Established in 1935 as British Federation of Social Workers, the name was changed to the Association of Social Workers in 1951. In 1970 the association merged with six other social workers' organisations to form the British Association of Social Workers.

Arrangement

The archives of BASW's predecessors were listed before their deposit in the Centre. A published catalogue is available. The archives of the different organisations are distinguished by different initials.
