Administrative / Biographical History
Owthorne, like its neighbour Old Withernsea was subject to coastal erosion, whilst Old Withernsea was lost in the 16th century Owthorpe survived until a severe storm in 1816 swept away much of the Church and churchyard. Many of the bodies from the churchyard were transferred to Rimswell. Owthorpe amalgamated with Withernsea in 1891.
