Inclosure plan of Owthorne

Coloured inclosure plan shows details of the land-owner and total acreage of the plots, there is also a sketch on the reverse from 1905 indicating coastal erosion of the area

Owthorne, like its neighbour Old Withernsea was subject to coastal erosion, whilst Old Withernsea was lost in the 16th century Owthorpe survived until a severe storm in 1816 swept away much of the Church and churchyard. Many of the bodies from the churchyard were transferred to Rimswell. Owthorpe amalgamated with Withernsea in 1891.
