Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Cardiff Reservoirs Fly Fishing Club was formed 1 November 1948. At the inaugral meeting the elected Chair Mr William Earle outlined the aims of the Club, namely to improve fishing on the Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs and to send deputations to the Cardiff Corporation to request improved accommodation for anglers. Election of the Committee, Club membership and subscriptions were also resolved and stocking of the Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs was discussed. The Club was affiliated to the Association of Welsh Fly Fishing Clubs in April 1952 and subsequently participated in national championships
The Club’s fishing activities were impacted by the transfer of ownership of Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs to Western Power Limited in the early 2000s and the subsequent controversy regarding the attempts by Western Power to change the use of land at Llanishen Reservoir facilitating the construction of housing
Cardiff Reservoirs Fly Fishing Club among others objected to the proposed redevelopment of Llanishen Reservoir and after a complex legal battle spanning several years, plans for the proposed housing development did not meet with approval. However during this period Llanishen Reservoir had been drained
Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) is currently restoring Llanishen and Lisvane Reservoirs and it is possible that they will once again be used for trout fishing when works have been completed
Cardiff Reservoirs Fly Fishing Club have continued to meet regularly and welcome anyone with an interest in fishing, and specifically fly fishing for trout
