Comments on book she is writing and adds: 'I did anticipate some hostile reaction from those who believe Mrs Pankhurst did it all before 1914, I think I have got a fair picture of her. Almost nothing can excuse her treatment of the saintly Fred Pethick-Lawrence. But what would the movement have done without her!'
