Henry Wm. Paget, the first Marquis, hero of Waterloo, to whose honour, the monument (Twr Marquis) by Llanfair P.G. was erected by public subscription. Lands found in 43 Anglesey parishes, but most substantial in the four or five parishes bordering on Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog (south Anglesey); enoromous interests in Amlwch and neighbourhood (north Anglesey) proved by the deep Paget commitments in the copper enterprises of Mynydd Parys, and the return of younger members of the Paget family as M.P.'s for co.Anglesey from 1790 to 1832, and for the Boroughs from 1832 to 1857. The names of the Amlwch tenants are quite cosmopolitan, containing a large admixture of Cornish names, several of which still exist in the neighbourhood. Amongst the poorer tenants appears the name of Catherine Randel (Cadi Rondol) who figured tumultuously in the Methodist Revival; her rent for her small cottage at Dyffryn Coch was only 2/- a year, numbered 340 in this rental. The Marquis had a considerable estate, all told, in co. Caernarvon; his most substantial tenants there were Elias Jones of Gorswen in Caerhun (grandfather of Elias Jones, J.P., of Gwredog by Amlwch) and George Bettis, the well-known Caernarvon hotel-keeper. Pagets represented the Caernarvon Boroughs uninterruptedly, barring one year for 44 years beginning with 1790.
