Scope and Content

This collection is comprised of documents, correspondence, reports, maps, plans and finds drawings relating to the excavations at Euesperides from 1994 to 2008.

Euesperides was a Greek colony located in what is now Benghazi. The site was abandoned in c. 250 BC and no re-occupation occured. Excavations at the site began in 1994 in response to the threat of the development and continued until 2008. The project was directed by John Lloyd and Ahmed Buzaian until Lloyd's premature death, when Paul Bennett and Andrew Wilson joined Buzaian to complete the excavations.
