Administrative / Biographical History

A parochial school was in existence at Sykehouse for many years before the establishment of a school board under the Elementary Education Act, 1870. It appears (from the extract from a conveyance to be found at P26/8/7) that the schoolhouse was transferred to the school board by the trustees of the charity school in 1881. A new school, provided by the West Riding County Council, was opened in 1908. The school was closed by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council in 1992.
