Administrative / Biographical History
This private bank was established in Rye in 1790 as E. J. Curteis, W. Curteis, Woollet & Dawes. In 1866 it was renamed R. Curteis, Pomfret & Co. and was also known as the Rye Bank. The first branch was opened at Tenterden, Kent, in 1832. Lloyds acquired the business in 1893.
