- Access Information
- We welcome all researchers who have a need to consult our printed works, manuscripts or archives. All visits will require an appointment to be made in advance as staff resources are very limited and it may be necessary for the required items to be brought to the library from another location. See http://www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk/history-heritage/archives-library/research/ for more information.
- Accessible
- Yes
- The Library can only be reached by use of a stone spiral staircase (38 steps), leaving by the same route. If you wish to use our collections for research purposes but would be unable to follow this route, please contact the Cathedral Archivist who will be happy to discuss how alternative access arrangements may be made.
- Archival and Other Holdings
- The archives comprise a small amount of material from the medieval Abbey of St Peter, and the later administrative records of the Dean and Chapter of Gloucester. The estate records of the latter are deposited with Gloucestershire Archives. There are also architects’ records, photographs, and printed and archive material relating to the Three Choirs Festivals.
- Notable items include the Dean and Chapter Act Books and Treasurer’s accounts (beginning in the early 17th century); manuscript music part books used by the choir in the 17th to 19th centuries; two 14th century cartularies; and a series of medieval deeds.
