Scope and Content

The files are arranged by year. The file for 1957-1958 (O35/A1/2-7) was originally held in a loose-leaf binder arranged by section and labelled G L Wilson, The Queen's College, Oxford (Lawrie Wilson was the first Bagman of the revived Side in 1957). Several files in 1965 (O35/A1/12-18) are labelled Oxford Ring Meeting , correspondence of W C J White, Winding Way, East Hagbourne, Berks (the 100th meeting of the Morris Ring was held in Oxford, 3-5 Sep 1965; John White was Bagman at the time). Unless otherwise stated folios are numbered in order in which they were found within folders and not necessarily chronologically.

The Bagman's Files commonly include the following items: notices & correspondence for tours, dances, ales, feasts, etc; bills and receipts; permits and correspondence for street collections and sales; circulars and correspondence with the Morris Ring and English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS); agenda and minutes of annual general meetings (usually in October, sometimes signed); balances of accounts (sometimes very detailed); lists of members and subscriptions; attendance sheets; lists of collections and amounts raised; lists of dances and arrangements; tour programmes; annual/seasonal/tour logbook accounts often with rough notes and drafts; newscuttings and publicity material; designs, samples, specifications and invoices for items of apparel and equipment; loose photos (main photo series in scrap-book volumes).
