Scope and Content

Associated with the diary and between the covers is the text of a sermon given by Rev K. L. Parry on board the "John Williams VI" at Bristol, 22 Aug 1948, which includes a brief history of the early days of the London Missionary Society. Towards the end of the volume there are also nine typewritten letters totalling 17 pages, posted home from Madeira, Panama Canal, Suva, Melbourne, Calcutta and Bombay. This is followed by a graphic account of the wreck of the "John Williams V", which occurred while its replacement was approaching the Gilbert Islands. There is also an article from the National Geographic Magazine describing the post war Gilbert Islands. This is followed by a printed copy of the 'Decennial Review of London Missionary Society activities in the Gilbert Islands and Nauru Mission in the decade 1940-1950'. There are several other leaflets, and a printed official report of the visit by Howard Diamond to the LMS. Also includes photographs, maps and other ephemera.
