B. J. Talbert

Bruce James Talbert (1838-1881) was born in Dundee and originally trained as a carver before working as an architectural draughtsman in Glasgow. He became a prolific commercial designer, and worked for several firms in many different materials. His textile designs were produced by Warner's, Templeton's, Cowlishaw, Nichol & Co. and Barbour & Miller and carpets by Templeton's and Brinton & Co. His two publications, 'Gothic Forms', 1867 and the posthumously published 'Fashionable Furniture', 1881, ably reflect changing fashions of the late 19th century. He is best known for his Gothic Revival work.
