Photographs from the Mansel Williams Papers
XS3401
Oil painting of David Lloyd George, artist Nansi Margaret Williams (nee Llewelyn), born in Skewen, Glamorgan in 1910. She was a well known musician in the Skewen area, 1925-1938 and regularly attended eisteddfodau as a solo pianist, accompanist and a choir conductor. In 1945 she came to Caernarfon as the wife of Mansel Williams and renewed her interest in painting. This portrait was painted mainly from her memory of the subject giving his annual speech at the Royal National Eisteddfod, which she had attended throughout the 1930s.
