The minute books are a major source of information about the MMI. They comprise mainly meetings of the Boards of Directors, annual general meetings and minutes of certain subcommittees. The minutes are in manuscript, compiled by the Institution's secretary. The minutes typically include reports from the various sub-committees, class reports, librarian's reports, and results of annual elections to the Board. A number of documents have been appended to the minutes such as printed promotional material, press cuttings relating to MMI, and business correspondence. MMI/1/10 comprises minutes of the Lecture Committee, 1871-1882, and MMI/1/11 minutes of the Lectures and General Arrangements Committee, 1871-1883. Minutes of the Council, which was founded in 1883, to succeed the Board of Directors have not been located.
