Administrative / Biographical History

The British Exploring Expedition, 1881-1882 (led by Leigh Smith) sailed from Peterhead. Sailing to Zemlya Frantsa-Iosifa expedition ship Eira encountered ice. During a visit to Mys Flora the ship was sunk and the crew were forced to winter on the island.
