Administrative / Biographical History

The St John Ambulance Brigade was formed in 1887, as a voluntary organisation offering free medical care. Today St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity. Their volunteers provide first aid in their communities, keep people safe at events, and work alongside the NHS in response to 999 calls. They also campaign to raise awareness of first aid and directly educate the public.

Custodial History

The records were acquired by Bridgend Libraries from various local sources, including Ogmore Vale Historical Society. They were then transferred by Bridgend Libraries to Glamorgan Archives with consent of the original donor where known.
