Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust was established by trust deed on 18 August 1988 and officially launched at Bishopthorpe Palace on 23 May 1989. It is a registered charity and is governed by its chairman and eleven trustees who meet at least twice a year.
The objects of the Trust are 'the preservation, repair and maintenance of Churches in Yorkshire and of monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments, bells, clocks and chimes in such churches and of the churchyard belonging to any such Churches.'
Funds are raised through donation, fundraising and membership and the first grants were made in 1990. Today the Trust gives around £100,000 a year to churches in need of repair and preservation.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws.
Acquisition Information
The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute by the Trust in 2003. Further additions were made in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.
