Administrative / Biographical History

Sir Gerald Trevor Bruce was a renowned solicitor born near Swansea in 1871. Bruce qualified as a solicitor in 1893 and joined Walter Morgan & Rhys. The firm was renamed Walter Morgan, Bruce & Nicholas shortly after. Bruce was commissioned into the Glamorgan Yeomanry in 1901. In 1902 Bruce was promoted to lieutenant, and to major in 1908, eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant-colonel during the war. In 1916 he served in Egypt with the 24th Welsh during the Palestinian campaign. Bruce was awarded the British War and Victory Medals for his services. After the war Bruce served as a High Sheriff, Chairman of the Welsh Industrial Estates Corporation, and as Lord Lieutenant of Glamorgan (1943-1952). Bruce died in 1953, aged 82.

The Settled Land Act 1925 was an Act to consolidate the enactments relating to settled land in England and Wales.
