The Finnish geologist Johannes Sederholm (1863–1934) was, like Holmes, a petrologist who, like Holmes, was particularly interested in the PreCambrain. In 1893 Sederholm became Director of the Finnish Geological Survey, a post he held until his death. Holmes and Sederholm frequently corresponded between 1911 and 1933. Shortly before Sederholm's death, Holmes was helping Sederholm to edit a book he was writing. At one time there was a medal named in Sederholm's honour.
