Administrative / Biographical History

The Swansea Working Men's Club and Institute was established in 1874 and held its inaugural celebration at the Music Hall, Swansea, on Monday 18 January 1875. Lord Aberdare was its first president. The club moved to newly-built premises at 34 Alexandra Road, Swansea, when Alexandra Road was built, and continued in operation there until its closure in the 1980s. The building has been demolished except for its façade, and redeveloped as flats.
