Takamiya Fragments Collection

28 manuscript fragments from the Phillipps Collection, 1000-1500; 3 Paston documents, 1564-1586; 10 manuscript fragments collected independently by Takamiya, 900-1600; 7 fragments of early printed books, 1450-1500.

Professor Takamiya was born in Tokyo in 1944. He studied English at Keio University and achieved his doctorate in English at Sheffield University in 1998. He has taught at Keio University and the University of Cambridge where, as a graduate student in the 1970s, he began collecting historic manuscripts. As of 2014 he was Professor Emeritus at Keio University.
Professor Takamiya was also a councillor on the board of the English Literature Society Japan, 1995-2004, trustee and later president of the Japan Society for Medieval English Studies, 1995-2009, trustee of the New Chaucer Society, 2004-2009, and director of The Humanities Media Research Institute at Keio University.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

The archive was donated to the Centre of Medieval Studies at the University of York in 2014 by Professor Toshiyuki Takamiya, and was subsequently deposited at the Borthwick Institute.
