On the flyleaf, however, Lucy has written that 'Mr Frank Kidson identifies this as the 16th edition … printed by W Pearson & sold by John Young, musical instrument maker at the Dolphin & Crown at the west end of St Paul's Causeway, 1716' Annotated inside cover by Lucy Broadwood: 'This book was given by one of the Streets (farmers near Lyne) to my father Henry Fowler Broadwood. He gave it to my sister Katherine when a young girl. Her daughters Katherine and Barbara Craster gave it to me. NB The Sussex farming folk evidently used Playford's books a good deal for another copy was given by a Warnham parishioner to be deposited with a fiddle etc. etc. in the Warnham church vestry in about the year 1880 or later'.

Lucy's manuscript inscription inside cover 'from Miss Hipkins (her grandmother, Mrs Black's) bound and repaired by Mr Kidson, 1907'. Where songs which were included in the original are missing from this copy, Kidson has bound in a blank sheet bearing the title of the missing piece.
