Autograph letter, signed, from James L. Halliday to his wife Beryl. Cunard White Star, R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, Tuesday [18th March 1947].
Ship slowed to 5 knots in 30-40 foot waves. Already a day behind schedule. Too stormy to walk on open deck. Daily news bulletin pushed under cabin door.
Continued Wednesday: Storm subsided. Went to cinema last night with Stirling. Talks to people of all kinds, but stand-byes are Shepherd, military engineer, and Stirling, Allan's friend. Feeling of hanging between two worlds - usual on outgoing trip. One sleeps on return voyage.
