Scope and Content

Statutory committee appointed under the Small Holdings and Allotments Act, 1908 (8 Edw. VII c. 36) which consolidated earlier Acts and conferred additional powers on county councils e.g. compulsory purchase and provision of mortgage loans to individual purchasers. The Committee replaced the separate Standing Allotments and Small Holdings Committees (see CC1/9 and CC1/10). It was transformed into a sub-committee of the Oxfordshire Agricultural Committee in October 1920 (see CC1/19) and then returned to committee status in October 1947. It was replaced by the Smallholdings and Agricultural Committee in April 1965 for which no minutes survive; see the Official File of Committees' Reports (CC1/1/A3).
