Scope and Content

The letters largely concern the selection, loan and reproduction of paintings as colour or black and white plates for the book. Includes references to owners/lenders of works (TGA 7050/1039-41, 1043), a lunch with other subjects and authors (TGA 7050/1054) and a photograph of Paul Nash for inclusion in the reprint (TGA 7050/1056-58). Also includes two letters from Kenneth Clark regarding the choice of paintings and reproductions (TGA 7050/1035-36), two letters from Allan Lane, Penguin Books, regarding Paul Nash's contract and disappointment with the book (TGA 7050/1042 and 1053), letter from Eunice Frost to Conrad Senat, Counterpoint, refusing to loan the blocks from the Penguin Book (TGA 7050/1061), letter from Nikolaus Pevsner, King Penguin Books to Paul Nash regarding the return of his 'pub sign' (TGA 7050/1063), and letter from J.A. Holmes, Penguin Books, to Paul Nash concerning his outstanding account (TGA 7050/1064). Together with four statements from Penguin to Paul Nash for the purchase of copies of the book (TGA 7050/1055).
