John Griffith of Cynfal [he always spelt his name Gryffydh] in part pursuance of the terms of the settlement of 1775 (documents DIN/53 - DIN/55) for securing the marriage-portions of the younger daughters of John Prichard the elder, to meet the situation created by the death unmarried of Catherine, one of the two daughters, and the consequent merger of the full marriage-portion in the person of the surviving daughter Margaret, married to the Rev. Robert Roberts of Llanrhaeadr D.C. Money secured from the Revd. Griffith at £4.10.0. per annum interest [Mr. Griffith was a prosperous cleric, member of the Griffith family of Tan-y-bwlch and Cynfal, cousin to Evan Griffith and afterwards married to his widow, and father by a second marriage to Jane, wife of Thomas Love Peacock].
