Scope and Content

Papers for the Gulbenkian competition for young and amateur composers. Includes a typescript draft of the specification with handwritten notes by Britten, a typescript copy of suggested conditions, and the final conditions booklet for the competition.

Correspondence is between George Christie, Britten and William Glock, who they ask to join the judging panel, as well as correspondence from James Thornton, regarding the Gulbenkian Music Festival in Lisbon.

Also includes letters from Madame de Azeredo Perdigao in 1968 inviting Britten to be on the judging panel in 1968; he declines.
