Scope and Content

This volume contains two poems of unknown authorship, apparently part of the Anatolian oral literary tradition, recounting the legendary exploits of Ali. The text exhibits many of the features of Old Anatolian Turkish, and no copies of the same texts are found in other catalogues. (I) ff 1-13r : Dest-i Ebu'l-Aşer, Gazavat-i Arslan Ali, a text on the adventures of Ali including his encounter with the text sons of Ebu'l-Aşer;. (II) ff 13v-34r : Gazavat-i Hazret-i Ali, Mücizat-i Mehmet, Muharibe-yi Mukatil Padişah, recounting Ali's encounter with the giant king Mukatil and his warriors; when Ali's strength begins to fail him, God sends the Prophet Muhammad صلعم with 33000 ashab to the rescue, and with their assistance Ali defeats the enemy. The text shows some small repairs, slight rubbing and faint waterstaining. This manuscript was evidently copied by Şaban İbn-i Hüseyin (ff 13r and 34r), although it is not altogether impossible that this is also the name of the author. The work is dated 1093 AH (1682-83 CE).
